For a couple of weeks, I have been speculating on the why Lucifer fell from heaven. I hope I can share my speculations, and you guys can let me know if it’s heretical or whatever because I love conversation.
Anyway, about 20 years ago a Muslim friend of mine told me that Lucifer rebelled because of racism. In essence, God told the angels to bow down to Adam, the first human, and he refused because he was superior to humans because he was made with fire and humans from dirt. (Quran, 18:50)1
I’m of the opinion of the church fathers about Islam, so please don’t take my referencing the Quran as belief in it. I just think it’s an interesting take on Lucifer’s rebellion against God, but I have a slightly different take.
I think Lucifer saw the creation of Man and knew, by looking at Jesus, that we were the sons and daughters of God. He became insanely jealous and demanded that angels also be included to become sons and daughters of God because he thinks angels are superior to Man.
When Lucifer was denied this, he began his rebellion. After he was cast out of heaven, he still wasn’t done trying to prove his point that Man is inferior. He did this by tempting Man, first with Eve, and then with the rest of mankind.
Little did he know, his actions caused Jesus to be incarnated as one of us which fulfilled his belief that Man would be the sons and daughter of God through Jesus Christ.
Quran, 18:50 – And [mention] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam,” and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.
